Sometimes you have to take a sick day

Yesterday was rotten. I woke up with my stomach in knots and a dull aching throughout my body. I spent the first half of the morning being sick in the bathroom and the rest of the day camped out on the playroom floor in my pajamas while the TV supervised my children with nonstop cartoons. They occasionally prodded my listless body to move when they were hungry or needed a diaper change. But for most of day things were pretty much Lord of Flies over here.

I'm lucky to be blessed with good health almost all the time. So when I get sick, even just a little stomach bug, it throws me for a loop. I feel so alien in my body when it's not working the way I want it to. Every little thing was so hard to do, it was just a really lame and frustrating day.

Thank goodness for good friends and an amazing husband. My friend Becca stopped by with Saltines, Ginger Ale and Gatorade to help with my stomach. Then Taber came home and completely saved me . After a long day at work he only had a short 2 hour window before he had to go back for a meeting on 3rd shift. He used that 2 hours not to unwind or take a break, but to relieve me from the pathetic attempt I was making to take care of our kids. I was able to take a hot shower and get in a little nap while he oversaw dinner and bath time. Once the kids were bathed and in a fresh pair of pajamas he kissed them goodnight and went back to work. I'm sure he was exhausted, but all he cared about was making sure I got a break. I know I've said this before but I really, really love that man.

Thankfully my sickness was only a 24 hour bug. Today I woke up and my stomach and body felt great! I took Teya to a birthday party, ran errands, took Brinley to the park, we jumped on the tramp, I got a nice run in, and all is well in Rigg land. Hopefully my girls won't be too damaged from their day of endless cartoons but sometimes even Moms have to take a sick day!

Man, don't you wish moms could take a REAL sick day? I swear, even when you are sick you don't get a break...but so nice that Taber was able to help out for a little while! I am glad you are feeling better!

I had the stomach flu for two days last week and it was absolutely miserable. I was so feverish at one point, Dave had to come home from work to put the kids up in their high chairs for lunch. It is the worst- I wish moms could call in sick and not show up for work!

Glad order is restored at your house!

So...you're saying if my two year old can sing every theme song from NICK, NICK JR. Disney, and PBS...that's...BAD? Either that or I have Cancer? Doh!

Glad you're feeling better dude so you can get back to being SUPER MOM!! Luv ya!

Yeah, I definitely was thinking how nice it would be to just take the day off and rest, like really in a bed, with no other obligations. As it was, I tried making a bed for myself on the couch but Teya wanted to lay in it and she managed to push me off. Then while I was on the floor Brinley was jumping and crawling all over me like I was an inflatable bounce house. Not fun when you feel so cruddy. Mommy sick days are so not REAL sick days, but at least we got to stay in our jammies all day : )

We had that same bug about three weeks ago! Yeah...it completely slammed into me like a freight train. I wanted to cry when Kenta left for work that morning because I didn't think I could take care of Thomas in the state that I was in. Luckily he took TWO naps for me that day and only fell off the couch once while I was resting (not asleep) in bed. We survived (barely) the day without Kenta. So glad you are feeling better!

I'm glad you're feeling better and it didn't last long! It's so hard for mommies to get a day off.. even when they're sick. You just too needed!!

So true! And like you pointed out, it's not like we really get the day off, but at least we can not feel guilty for not getting anything done. Way to go Taber for being so helpful.

Poor Becca. I am glad you have such a good hubby to take care of you. I have been lucky not to have any sick days like that yet, but I am sure they will come. Not looking forward to it, but hey, it's worth it if you get to be a mom. Right? :)
