A few weeks ago I attended the most inspiring Relief Socitey meeting where we learned how to organize our homes. The class was taught by the amazing Camie Christensen, who could seriously be the CEO of the world because that's how organized she is. Since that meeting I have been an Organizing machine! I tore through my house like a woman on a mission. I threw away 3 huge garbage bags of toys and lame stuff we never use. I sold some things on craigslist, gathered a few big boxes of clothes to ship to my sister, and took 5 huge garbage bags full of clothes and toys to Goodwill. WOW that felt GOOD!
I bought a bunch of plastic trays, bins and containers and starting organizing my junk drawers, bathroom drawers, desk drawers and closets. I also did a pretty good number on my pantry. She told us to
Find a home for everything you own, and every night, return everything to its home. That advice has saved my life! My house is so much easier to clean, keep clean, and navigate. I used to be the ONLY person around here who knew where anything was because we didn't have proper homes for everything. Well now I can confidently leave anyone in charge and know they'll have no problem finding what they need : )
I present you, the drawer of organization (formerly known as the black hole or junk drawer) No more digging around to find what I need, everything's in its home, right where I can find it.

My Pantry used to be a nightmare too. Boxes would sit on the shelves totally empty, and I wouldn't even realize it. Camie suggested buying some clear sterilite plastic containers to put kid snacks like granola bars, fruit snacks, chips, etc.. in. That way they are accessible and easy to keep track of when the inventory is getting low.
I Also like that they're down on Teya's level so she can just open the pantry and get what she needs. The best part is those containers are only 97 cents each at Wal-mart. Easy and cheap.

Finally found a home for our shoes that pile up by the back door. I have one of these by the front door but we never come in that way. Bought one to go in the closet by our back door and our entry way is no longer clogged up with shoes!
I've had so much fun purging and organizing my closets and drawers that now I'm ready to hit my filing cabinets! Camie told us that 80% of what we file is never looked at again. A couple days ago I bought this bad boy, time to get rid of that extra 80%!!

Woah, Becca... holy moley!!! That pantry is OrganIzed! You inspire me. :)
wow. Love it! I am currently in the process... yuck. But it feels so good after it's all done! I am impressed. I have been reading a book that I love, you may like it too, it is called Organic Housekeeping. She has all sorts of good tips like that, as well as how to clean your house with out all the toxic chemicals. Nice work!
Wow you were REALLY paying attention! I have gone to a couple of organizing seminars and get pretty pumped by it too, but you really took ACTION! That is awesome! Nothing feels more liberating than getting rid of a bunch of useless junk. I really need to do that basket thing to my junk drawer. What really amazes me though is your PANTRY!! Wowie wowie!! I am impressed, nice job!
Awesome job!!!
I LOVE it! You did a great job! I know I have to do the same but it's so hard to get started. So much to do and so little space...but have to get it done somehow. Seeing that you did it makes me want to get started too.
OK...I seriously need to do this. You have motivated me. :)
Good for you! I love containers and new ways to get organized. It always feels good to purge the useless stuff we never use too!
Way to go! I am jealous! I need to go through the house and do the exact same thing...........you may have just been the inspiration I needed! Thanks.
I completely admire people like that. Tell us more!!!
dang scared of you
You have motivated me! Seriously. My sister's really into the "flyLady" have you heard of her or seen her book? Yeah, my sister's way totally gung-ho about it all!
looks great, Becca!
Can't wait until my "nesting" phase really takes over too!
Oh! And I saw your other blog you do too...spinning class is awesome! It takes me a day to walk normally after doing a class.
Good for you to get into that now since it's going to be winter.
Okay I came back to reply to your comment on my blog. First I must say Liz's comment on this post was funny.
But yeah, the exact same thing happened to Makenzie. I do think it is preschool. What I didn't say in my post was that after she told me she wanted princesses, she said, "Maddy loves princesses." And kept talking about this girl and how much she loves pink and princesses. Dang preschool! At least it's just princess junk... preparing us for all the wonderful things I'm sure they'll learn in elementary school!
I love getting things organized! It always feels so good after. I usually start out with organized drawers/closets, etc., but then they get way out of hand, so this makes me want to go throw out a bunch of stuff again. I love getting rid of stuff. (The other day I was cleaning out my closet, and I found some dresses that I had been holding onto for some reason - just because they were still in good shape - that I realized I have had since BEFORE I got married. So yeah, almost 10 years. And I haven't worn them in about that long. What is wrong with me? It felt sooo good to get rid of them.)
I love all the pictures, though - your pantry is beauuuuuutiful!
I totally do the shredder every time we move!
so...thanks to you, I started my my "organization quest." I'm on day #2, and I'm still trying to finish the kitchen. Lots of stuff to throw away. But I know eventually I'll finish. Thanks again for inspiring me!
