Going the Distance!

For Taber's birthday I thought it would be fun to get him some running stuff since that's what he's been into lately. While I was at the running store I saw a book called "Run your First Marathon: everything you need to know to cross the finish line." Taber had talked about someday wanting to go the full distance so I got the book thinking it would be something fun for him to research.

Well I guess the book got him REALLY excited and the next thing I know he's searching for a Marathon to run. I got caught up in his enthusiasm and said, heck, I'll run with you! Why not? I figured we could find something in October and that would give us plenty of time to train. We found some nearby marathons in Oct. but they were all being held on Sundays. So we started a new search for marathons a Saturday and low and behold, the Duluth Marathon (Grandma's) is on a Saturday this year! We were pretty excited, especially because Duluth is only 4 hours away. Only problem, the marathon is next month! Could we be ready that soon? We researched some training schedules and realized that with our half marathon training we were only one long run behind!
(picture from last year's Grandma's Marathon in Duluth)

Long story short, we decided to be CRAZY and we registered for the Marathon, booked a hotel in Duluth, and started calling babysitters. Our training has definitely jumped to a new level and I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little nervous! We did 14 miles last Thursday and when we were coming towards the end I thought, "Holy cow, this is only half way and I'm BEAT!" Still, I'm optimistic that if we stick to the training schedule, take care of our bodies, and PACE OURSELVES, we'll be able to cross the finish line.

Inspired by my awesome friend Tara, who is running the Park City Marathon this year, I started a running blog to chronicle our training and post about ups and downs, obstacles, triumphs, good ideas, motivation (and lack of motivation) etc... If you ever wondered what training for a marathon is like, well here you go! http://bittenbytherunningbug.blogspot.com.
Wish us luck!

If i didn't love junk food and junk food and junk food so much, I'd love to run a marathon or a triathlon one of these days!

Good luck you two!

Oh My! What is with you people? I'm going to kill Taber. One of Tara's dreams is for me to run any kind of race with her. (which I did once and threw up 3x's after, I really hate running.)I'm not going to hear the end of this.
The thing is while you guys have big dreams of running I have big dreams of becoming the next biggest loser, and I'm still short a couple hundred pounds so yeah running wouldn't help me out at this point in my life.
But you guys knock yourselves out. Freakin skinny people. :)

Sorry if I kind of let the cat out of the bag on my last comment, but I had to tell you how excited I am that you're doing a marathon, too! And before me, which is definitely a plus so I can see what it's like!:)
I'm so glad you started a running blog. I assure you I'll be a regular reader. I already see we've stumbled upon some of the same training advice and are working our cores (man we're gonna be hot when this is through, right?!).
My sister was loaned the same book you are reading by a lady who ran her first marathon with her husband last summer and she said they did well. You guys are so fun. And good luck getting a babysitter if you haven't found one! :)

teachers? Excuse me? Isn't somebody supposed to be raising our children instead of blogging? Ha!

So everybody knows I'm just joking with Tara she does a fabulous job at home. I just read my comment and it sounds rude. She's right I should be teaching, but these kids are having so much fun working on their Mexico City packet that I decided I would check blogs real quick. It's Friday you know? Anyway Becca I'll stop filling up you comment section. :)

LOL! Justin and Tara you guys are soooo funny! I could not stop laughing at this thread. I confess, during my teaching days I might've checked my personal email now and then. Thank goodness the blogging wave hadn't started then or those kids would've been watching movies every day! : )

Holy crap Becca! You 2 are definitely bitten by the bug, now if only I could convince you to do a triathlon with me :)

I wish I could do a full marathon but my knee hinders me. I will join you in spirit and cheer you on!

Isn't it fun to do something amazing and push your body to the next limit only to realize that what you thought was impossible really isn't?

I've got it in the back of my mind to someday do a 1/2 ironman, but no I'm not gonna go out and sign up for it just yet! :)

Good luck, I'll be rootin' for ya (and Taber too - but you are a MOM and have 2 babies and yeah you're so much tougher than Taber (sorry Taber, gotta tell it like it is!))
