Kicking off Christmas

Over the last week we have really enjoyed getting into the spirit of Christmas. I've always loved this time of year but having kids makes it 10X's as magical!

Last Monday we went out in search of a Christmas tree.

Growing up, my dad was allergic to trees so we never had a real one. After we got married we always spent Christmas with our families so we never bothered to get a real one either. This year will be our first Christmas with just our little family so we decided it was time to get a real tree. After examining several lovely pines this was the winner the girls wanted to bring home.

Once we brought it home it was time to decorate! We turned on the Christmas music, popped some popcorn and warmed up hot cocoa to get us in the mood.
It took longer than we thought to decorate (especially with little hands "helping out") but once it was finished and we turned out the lights, the girls' eyes were sparkling with awe : )

Later in the week we bought some gingerbread houses to decorate. A lot of the decorations ended up in Brinley's and Monty's mouths, but I guess that's all part of the fun.

And here are the girls with their masterpieces.
We set them out as decorations and every once in awhile Brinley likes to stop by and pull off a candy or two for sampling.

To cap off our Christmas kickoff week we took the girls to the mall to see Santa. We went right when it opened hoping to avoid a line but we still waited over 30 minutes. At least they got to take a little train ride to pass the time.

Choo Choo! Off to see Mr. Claus!

When it was our turn Brinley ran up to Santa and gave him a HUGE hug. Such a contrast from last year when she was crying her eyes out.

They each took turns whispering their Christmas wishes to Santa. Teya asked for a Tangled Rapunzel tower and Brinley asked for a mermaid.
Santa told them to be good little girls and the nice thing is, they have been : )

I love the smell of a real Christmas tree, but sadly I am also allergic so we have to settle for smelling them on our way into the grocery store! Looks like a ton of fun around your place (as usual!). Merry Christmas!

Oh Christmas really is 10X's more magical with kids. I love it. That tree is so full and thick. The trees they sell out here are so thin, like Charlie Brown's xmas tree. You always think of so many great things to do with your kids. Thanks for sharing. Your house looks great all decorated and I just want to cuddle up by that fireplace. How lovely

My kids have yet to get anywhere close to sitting on Santa's lap. We'll have to see this year. I love that Teya asked for Rapunzel's tower! And that tree looks gorgeous!

Holidays are definitely WAY more fun with kids!
I love that Teya asked for the Rapunzel tower too. It's the only thing that Anna has asked for so we bought her one before the movie came out-just in case it ended up being a hard-to-get-item. She saw it in an ad and circled it :)
You reminded me, I still need to get the girls to see the mall Santa!

Woo hoo, fun stuff! That is one gorgeous Christmas tree! Makenzie is way into the Rapunzel stuff too and we haven't even seen the movie yet! She's a big fan of the traditional Rapunzel story though and Shannon Hale wrote a book called Rapunzel's Revenge that Kenz is obsessed with. I think it's kind of weird for a little girl, it's comic book style, but Makenzie L-O-V-E-S it and won it at a birthday party (another little girl liked it so much she based her bday party around it). Maybe you should check it out for Teya! (Anyway, random information). Glad you guys are having fun, cute pictures!

Oh how fun! I have so many fun memories of when I was a kid going to pick out our Christmas tree. We'd get a permit and drive up the mountain to pick one...as I got older, we'd just pick one behind our house. haha But they sure smelled good. All we use now are fake ones. Someday we'll have to surprise our kids with a real one! And I love your santa pics. I don't think Tristan will be up to sitting on Santa's lap this year. He's in his clingy-almost-2-stage. haha We'll see though;0)

I love your tree! It's beautiful. So fun to have vaulted ceilings. It's nice to have your own Christmas too... I'm sure it will be a special one!

I love the pic of the girls with Santa, so cute!! Serious props for doing a real tree, cleaning up after them is a serious task, your a good wife/mom! I refused to have a real one after our first year of marriage!
So I just have to say with the whole potty training thing, I'm totally trying to get ahead of it so I can take Jack to Ada's pre-school. But let me tell you we've been on this journey for a while, and it's my inconsistency that's been the problem!

love the tree! we tried having little hands help us with the tree, but he broke one of mommy's ornaments so he just helped with the less fragile stuff.

Yay for real trees! Jason keeps trying to get me to go for an artificial tree, but I just can't. Not yet. Not while my kids are still so young and enjoy the process of tree selection & decorating. The girls look adorable with Santa! Alli wants a Barbie Pup Swim School Pool, and asked humbly if it would be ok to ask for a hula hoop too, since hers is broken. I love Christmas with little ones!! Merry Christmas to your family! Love the family pics! I bailed on cards this year. Sigh... maybe next year!
