I was scared and emotional but after listening to all the options I told her that I didn't want to do the CVS test because the risk of miscarriage was too great and no matter what we learned I would continue the pregnancy. She was very supportive of that and said that our next option then would be to wait until I was 16 weeks along and then go to a genetic counselor and another specialist for a detailed ultrasound to get a closer look at everything and assess the risks from there. If the ultrasound was abnormal we would have the option to do an amnio at that point.
In the meantime we had a whole month to think about everything that could happen. I tried not to worry too much because a lot of times these early screening tests show false positives. At the same time though I think it's hard not to worry just a little. I knew I'd love my baby no matter what, but how would other people respond to my child? And what kinds of health challenges would we be up against?
4 long weeks of waiting and not knowing and worrying finally ended last Friday. Taber took work off and we went together to the appointment. First we met with the genetic counselor who did a detailed family history with us and talked us through outcomes, risks, etc... Then we went in for the ultrasound.
Baby was wiggly and active and it was so wonderful just watching our little one move all around. The technician took lots of pics and measurements for the test.
Baby seemed to be having a great time and even waved hello!
After the technician was done the Specialist came in to talk to us about the ultrasound. He's looked at a million of these and is one of the best of the best at detecting abnormalities in ultrasounds. From what he saw everything looked normal and he thought our risks of miscarriage from an amnio were greater than our risks of actually having any kind of defect. We were so happy and relieved to hear such good news. And to top it all off, we also got to find out what we were having!! Even at just 16 weeks there's no question about the gender on this one!

We're so happy that everything turned out to be normal and are pretty excited to get some boy stuff in this house. Taber says his son will not be sitting in any pink bouncers or car seats, we get to go shopping for blue : )

And just in case we had any doubts we got one more shot.

Rigg number 3 is ALL BOY!!

Congrats on a boy! How fun! We will keep praying for your little one in hopes that he will be strong and healthy.
Yay!!! Teya and Brinley are going to love having a baby brother!! So exiting, little boys are the best!!
Becca,
Wow what an ordeal! I'm so grateful that baby boy Rigglet is okay! I am beyond happy for you guys! I know what an incredible mother your are to your girls, so this little baby is one blessed and lucky little guy to come to your family!
Love you so much!
Erika :)
What a scary ordeal, but how exciting that everything came out looking OK! And how fun that you are getting your boy! Baby Boy Rigg is going to be adorable...I can already tell! And it seems to be boy season...I wonder if I will be joining the boy train?? :)
This one brought tears to my eyes! I went through something similar when I was pregnant with Kade and it was such a huge relief just to see him wiggling around in the ultrasound all healthy and happy. Congratulations on your first little boy, I am so excited for you!
You're right, early stuff can be so misleading. My friend didn't think she was pregnant and was having abdominal cramping and after some tests they told her they thought she had an ectopic pregnancy. Turns out she is totally fine, she is like 22 weeks along now and baby is just great! (and a girl after 2 boys)
I'm so sorry you guys had to wait through 4 weeks of just wondering, great job not worrying too much, and I'm so glad everything looks good! Better than good- a boy this time! We were so excited when Jarom was a boy, it's just fun getting the other gender. I laughed about the pink bouncer comment, so funny. I'm really happy for you guys, have fun shopping for boy stuff!
That SAME EXACT thing happened with Matthew. In fact one night, I started bleeding and a rush of fluid came and I thought for sure that he was gone. Ultrasound was fine the next morning and the more I think about it, it could have been a twin. The same results from a later ultrasound with the chromosomes. Turned out it was just fine too. I am so glad that HE is doing great. You are going to LOVE!!!!! having a boy! I love my girl, but boys hold a special place in my heart. COngratulations!!!
I am glad to hear that it doesn't seem to be a problem. What a horrible scare.
On a happier note, Boys are so much fun. I am so excited for you. My advice start working on your roar. There is a lot of roaring going on in my house. Congrats!!
Ha HA! I think its cute that Taber wants to make sure you have blue seats for baby to sit in. Congrats on the good news guys. He couldn't have picked a better family to go to!
That is so scary! As if you don't have enough that you're dealing just being 14-16 weeks prego. I am so happy that everything turned out all right and that you get to have a little BOY! Boy's are very fun and very busy :) Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy.
Yay for boys! Your going to love it. I'm excited for Noa and Micah to have a cousin their age to play with. Congrats you guys.
Wow! What a scary ordeal! Especially, four long weeks of not knowing. However, now you know you are having a boy!!! We are so excited and jealous! We really need to get a boy sometime. Aaron told me we are not stopping until we get a boy... we'll see once we've had 5 girls, if that statement still holds up. Congrats!
Congratulations! SO very excited for you and your healthy little boy!
Bring on the blue! I'm so glad everything is ok.
Congrats! During my cousin's last pregnancy they were told she (the baby) HAD major heart issues and might not live. 6 months of prayers stress and worry... The baby was just fine. Congrats on the boy! I'm so glad everything looks okay! What a scary month it just have been.
Wow--how scary for all of you. I'm sure it has been stressful for you both! I'm excited about a little boy--you'll love having some blue around the house!
SO GLAD everything is allgood. He's going to be a well loved little boy with lots of mommies.
What a relief that everything appears normal - that must have been a long 4 weeks of waiting and not knowing - how scary. I bet that last ultrasound was so nerve-wracking! Congratulations on the boy news, too!! What a great bonus to also be able to find out what you're having at the same time you find out things are okay! It looks like he's not a shy one at all (how could he be, being a Rigg?). I'm so excited for you to have a boy. I may as well just put this on the table now - since Henry and Brinley are already getting married, can we just set up our unborns, too?
Becca,
i'm so glad to hear things are looking good for your latest little one. Congrats on the boy! That's so exciting for you guys. I'm sure he will be adoreable, you and Taber seem to produce beautiful off-spring.
Now that you are feeling better, you should come to Utah and run the Dirty-Dash with me... it's in September... :)
Becca I'm so glad everything is ok! Sometimes those darn test are more of a curse than a help. We miss you guys!
Norma
I can't imagine how rough that must have been to wonder for four weeks!!! Congratulations on a little boy!!!!!
Our children are such wonderful blessings, and this little guy will be no different! We're so excited for you guys, a little boy! Yay! He's going to be so handsome, I just know it!! We're keeping you guys in our thoughts and prayers, and hope that all will continue to go well! You guys are such awesome parents, he's going to be the luckiest guy around to have such great parents, and two great big sisters!! BTW, I totally missed your Monty hair cut post...I did the same thing w/ our Cocoa. I was willing to pay the $30 at Petsmart, but she was so "vicious and agressive" (according to the petsmart people) that they made me come back and get her. HA! It's not like she's this huge monstrous dog that'll take your arm off. haha. Anyway, I ended up getting some clippers at walmart and did it myself. Chenoa gave her some lunch meat throughout and we were fine! haha. So I think I'm done w/ the idea of a groomer! haha! P.S. you look GREAT pregnant! (NO FAIR!)
Yay for healthy baby boys! I can't wait to see a rolly little Rigg boy. He's going to be so dang cute!!
I'm sooo happy for you guys! That sure was a scare but so glad that everything is okay with baby BOY #3. What a blessing to an already AMAZING family.
That's so scary! I know so many people who have had those scares. I'm sure it was hard to wait that month, and the upcoming months, but I know without a doubt you guys would love your baby no matter the outcome! You have the biggest hearts! I am SUPER excited to hear you are having a boy!! Yay for boy shopping... have fun!!
Whew! Thank goodness everything turned out better after your 2nd visit! And congrats on the baby boy!!!! Just wish we lived closer so we could have some fun little boy play dates in just a few short months :) Congrats, Becca!!!
AHhh...here's the post. I knew it would be in here somewhere.
Congrats again on the boy and so glad to hear that everything seems to be worked out.
And yes...GO BLUE ;)
