The Drawbacks of Having an Easy Baby

You wouldn't think there would be drawbacks to having a super chill, easy going, sweet, mellow baby, but there are a few.

1) Unless she makes a stink bomb it's hard to know if she's pooped her diaper. Unlike most babies, she doesn't cry, she just sits and waits for me to figure it out.

2) It's hard to know when she's hungry unless she's STARVING. She'll go 4 hours without eating (if we're running errands or something) and I'll just keep going not even thinking about it until I get hungry and then I'm like! Oh no! Poor Brinley! I can barely handle going 3 hours without eating. She's much more patient than me!

3) And worst of all, it is hard to know when she's really sick. Colds are obvious, but other things can go undetected. A couple days ago I noticed that her lymph nodes at the back of her head were swollen. I got online and learned that usually that means there's some sort of infection. She didn't have a fever and wasn't fussy so I had no idea what it could be. After 3 days of swollen nodes I finally took her into the Doctor. It turns out she had a DOUBLE EAR INFECTION! My poor little baby! I never would've known if I hadn't felt those nodes and also listened to my mother's intuition that something wasn't right. Guess I'm really going to have to rely on my instincts more often now that I have such an easy little baby!

You've gotta be kidding me! Two ear infections and she was STILL happy?? Wow. I am without words. :)

That is exactly the way Blake was as a baby. He is still that way when it comes to being sick. Last year he said his tooth hurt, turns out he had a REALLY nasty ear infection. His eardrum ruptured the same night he told us about it, poor kid...we had to wait til the next day to take him to the dr.

Becca,
Brinley is like you were when you were a baby. I remember your Mom feeling so guilty because you had an ear infection and she didn't know because you did not cry, run a fever. You never complained.
What a sweetheart. (you and brinley)

Becca,
I'm so glad you followed your intuition and took Brinley back to the Dr. Swollen glands usually do mean an infection somewhere. She is so much like you in her temperment and cuteness! I just want to squish her.
Love to all,
Mom

I'm so jealous I can hardly stand it! Please have Brinley send me some easy baby vibes for my next baby.

seems i have a lot in common with your Brinley...Pae never knows when I've soiled myself either unless it's a real stinker!

I shall cross my fingers that if I ever have children, they will be like Brinley. I spend so much time at work surrounded by cranky babies that an easy one would be heaven!

Holy COW! I can't believe it took swolen nodes to find out Brin was sick! Brooklyn would have been whining and biting me (something she does when she's sick, don't know why) I'm glad you took her in though. Ear infections can lead to many other problems!

Poor little bean. Thank goodness for lymph nodes. She's the sweetest baby ever.

What a little sweetie. Way to be an on-the-ball mom, though. I'm not great at noticing stuff like that.

I think I've said this before, but I kind of want to set Henry and Brinley up. She probably already has tons of prospective suitors, though.
