An "exciting" Friday

Last weekend after eating Thai food with some friends, I opened my fortune cookie and it said, "This coming Friday will be an exciting time for you." I totally freaked out and got super excited and thought, "There you have it! The baby is coming on the 4th of July!!!" Why I got excited about some bogus piece of paper in a cookie is beyond me! I'm really not a superstitious person, but for some reason I thought this cookie knew something we didn't, so all week I was preparing myself for our little firecracker to arrive. On Thursday night, nothing had happened yet, so I decided to help things along and went on a major power walk. I had contractions for a few hours afterward and got so excited I made Taber pack our hospital bags.

Well the next morning, still no baby! So I went on another power walk and then we headed out to find some raspberry leaf tea. All day long I walked and walked, I swear I must've walked at least 10 miles. By 4pm my feet were swollen, my legs were exhausted, and I was still as pregnant as ever with no sign of impending labor. Finally I resigned myself to the fact that the "something exciting" wasn't going to be baby. Unfortunately I hadn't made any 4th of July plans since I thought I'd be in the hospital (hehe! I'm so silly) But luckily some friends called and invited us to go watch fireworks with them at the local college. It was Teya's first time seeing the fireworks and I was impressed that she didn't get scared since usually loud things frighten her. Instead she just sat in Taber's lap and held tightly to his arms and said, "It's okay Daddy, fireworks not loud, they're cool!" So at the end of the day the fireworks provided our something exciting, and I learned an important lesson about not putting too much stock into the words of a fortune cookie!!

Hanging out with daddy just before the fireworks started

Teya and me (still very pregnant)

Snacking on popcorn before the show

covering her ears during the grand finale (it got a little loud)

Thanks for the story to make me smile today. I loved/hated those last few days of pregnancy excitement/misery. Isn't pregnancy funny that way? :)

Oh gosh I totally empathize with you! I found "signs" in everything at the end of my pregnancy...and then he was nearly 3 weeks late! I am crossing my fingers and praying hard for you that it will be soon. :) I am glad the day turned out fun though. Oh and btw the red raspberry leaf helps to tone the uterus but doesn't actually get the contractions going. I usually take it through my whole pregnancy...email me I have something for you to try if you haven't already...

How funny! I love how you didn't even make 4th of July plans - I'm the same way if I get it in my head that something might happen. I'm not looking forward to these next 2 or 3 weeks, because I hate the suspense of not knowing when it's going to start.

BTW, I don't think I ever answered your questions - I've been feeling great this pregnancy, and things have beeng going really well. I was measuring small so they did an extra sonogram at my last appointment, but it turns out the little guy was not so little - he was actually measuring big and they think he might come early. Ha ha. We'll see - I'm not counting on it. I'll try to post some pregnancy belly pictures today before it's too late.

You're so funny! I think I would have done the same thing. By the way, I'm preggers too! But not nearly as far along as you. I'm due in late January. Ugh...funny how quickly I forgot all my complaints of being pregnant. Now I'm back to being nauseated, having major heartburn and feeling mucho-large-o. So excited for you! Can't wait to hear when your little bundle of joy finally arrives:)

I love the picture of Teya covering her ears with her shoes! Good luck....They are right when they say babies never come when you want them too. Either they are too early or too late! I'm so excited for you Becca.

Pitocin... Works great. Even though I was dilated to a 4 it was the only thing that kept my contractions regular! Good luck, it's about to get much crazier!

Happy 4th! Glad you got to celebrate afterall. That's funny about the fortune cookie... I have to admit, I would have thought, or hoped, for the same outcome!
