When I asked Teya what kind of party she wanted for her birthday I secretly hoped she might want something that would involve tutu's and fairy wings. (yes I confess, I bought the Tinkerbell movie for her and made her watch it to try to and brainwash her ; ) It didn't work however, because when I suggested a fairy party she said, "No mom, I want a PIRATE PARTY!"

So a pirate party it will be. Once I let go of the fairy idea we've actually had a lot of fun planning for pirates. We made some cute little invitations and put them in bottles with sand and seashells to deliver to all her friends. She put every single seashell in and was quite proud of herself.

As we get closer to the party the anticipation is killing her. We got some swords and eye patches for the kids and she literally asks me every day if she can wear her eye patch. The first time she put it on she looked in the mirror and gasped "I LOOK GORGEOUS!"

Another cute thing is that she's been talking in "pirate speak" all week. Lot's of "Arrr's" and "Ahoy Mateys!" But the funniest was the other day when Brinley started crying Teya rushed to her side and said, "Don't worry me hearty, when things go wrong it will be okay." I was cracking up that she used "me hearty" like it was just a regular part of every day speech.

Monty has suffered from Teya's excitement too. She really wanted to wear her costume the other day and when I pulled it out she saw Monty's and well, the poor guy didn't have a chance.
We're all really excited for Saturday though. In line with my "I can do hard things" goals I will be attempting to make a pirate ship cake. We'll see how it goes. I guess if I really mess it up it can always just be a ship wreck and we'll just go with that : )

Me and Ro were cracking up at how cute Teya is and how different she is from Maile. I'm so impressed with your party planning skills. We're having a butterfly party for Maile (of course) in 2 weeks. I desperately need any help, advice or suggestions you may have. I wish you could just come out here and do the party. I'm just not gifted in that area.
It is so cute how excited she is! As for the pirate ship cake...maybe you can enlist the help of Luis since he is a fabulous boat cake-maker! :)
I was cracking up through this whole post! How hilarious is Teya! I love that she wants a pirate party more than anything else and that she thinks she looks pretty with an eye patch on. Too funny! I am excited to see how the cake turns out! You really do inspire me!
Awesome! Hahahah!
You know, just yesterday my niece had her PIRATE birthday party too. They made a treasure chest (for a treasure hunt) out of a styrofoam cooler. I can share pictures with you if you want.
Oh yah, and they made a plank and made her walk the plank. Hahahah! That's brilliant! Make Teya walk the plank!
Becca,
You are so creative it astounds me.
I love the pirate pictures. Teya is amazing and so cute.
Love you,
Grandma Pratt
Soooooo fun!! She cracks me up, especially the pirate talk :) Have fun! And Happy Birthday Teya!
Those invitations were amazing! I can't believe how creative you are. I wish some of that could rub off on me :) Good luck with the party!
LOL you had me laughing with the "shipwreck" comment. Your invites are so cool! I've avoided giving Ethan (or Elena for that matter) a real party thus far. Just thinking of all the work makes me cringe! Although James and I decided we'll be doing a "friend" party one year and then a "family" party the next year. This year we'll be doing the last "family" party for Ethan, next year when he starts school we'll let him have his first "friend" party.
It was nice talking to you yesterday!
We had a family reading this morning of your blog and all had a great laugh. I love Teya's spunk! and your creativity is off the charts!! I'm so excited for this party and so is Maddy, yesterday morning she woke up and said "I'm so Excited!" it was out of no where so I asked why she was so excited, "for Teya's birthday party" was her reply. We can't wait
Oh my gosh! The pirate talk is HILARIOUS! You are So creative Becca! I LOVE< LOVE< LOVE the invites. I am going to have to steal the idea for Gabriel's birthday this summer. She is SO funny!
That is too funny. We did a pirate party for Trevor last year. He had a blast. I painted a styrofoam cooler to look like a treasure chest and the kids threw bean bags in it for one of the games. We also did a pirate ship pinata and a "treasure hunt" in an under the bed storage box with sand and little treasures hidden in it. I hope you guys have an awesome time, Saturday is Trevor's birthday but I think we'll just take him to a pizza place this year...I try to do big parties for them only every four years, they are so much work!
I love it! Me Hearty...how funny! Teya is adorable! I love her cute personality! And you're soooo creative! Good job! She's going to have a great party! Monty was a great sport by the way! haha. Soooo cute! Can't wait to see pics of the party! Good luck:)
It's such a shame Makenzie and Teya can't play, they would be peas in a pod! Whenever Makenzie meets someone, she just holds up three fingers and they always say, "You're three??" and she goes "yeah. I have a pirate party."
Your party is definitely gonna be awesome (those invitations are killer!) and Teya will love every minute of it. I scrolled my invitations too but gave up on the bottle idea because I couldn't find glass ones with corks - water bottles, duh!!
I love that she gasped and said she looked gorgeous in her eye patch! That gave me a good chuckle. And Monty has a costume too?! You guys are cute.
Oh my goodness! You are SO creative! Those bottle invites are so adorable! You guys are really going all out! I love it! Maybe I will be inspired by some of your creativity. Pirates are way cooler than fairies!!!!!
I love that a 3 year old little girl is so into pirates! Your invitations are awesome, so clever! I hope she has a fantastic pirate birthday party. Arrrr!
