Road Trip

Things I've learned from my road trip to Minneapolis:
-2 year olds can be scary when strapped into a seat for hours at a time
-the body can survive for a long time on cheetos and gatorade
-you can change a baby's diaper on your lap while driving if you're really, really desperate

Things we couldn't have survived without on our road trip:
-Portable dvd player (seriously, you can't put a price on how valuable this was!)
-GPS (saved us from disaster several times)
-Beef Jerkey, cheetos, & gatorade (it's truly amazing how they can sustain you for days)
-Hand sanitizer and wipes (a necesisty when using public restrooms and eating in the car)

Cardinal rules to follow when traveling with kids:
-NEVER stop when they babies are sleeping (I would rather wet my pants then stop, it's so not worth waking them up!)
-Don't let the DVD battery die!

So we survived the 2 day drive to Minneapolis with a 2 year old, newborn baby and our dog. Teya did great while plugged into her DVD player but she definitely had some rough moments. After a particularly intense meltdown we finally caved in and let her suck her binky in the car (normally it's only allowed in her bed) She was so happy when we gave her the binky. At one point Taber saw her petting it and saying, "Binky, you're my friend"

Monty did great as long as we were driving, but every time we stopped he flipped out and started barking like a maniac. The true champion of the drive was little Brinley. She slept for 4 hour stretches and harldy made a peep during the whole trip! We got in last night around 7pm and are staying at a hotel until our stuff gets here tomorrow. It's been a crazy week but we're hoping to be sleeping in our own beds and getting Teya back into a routine very soon!
At a pit stop where we let Teya run around in the grass to burn off some energy

Teya zoning out in front of her DVD player with Monty sleeping by her side

A rare moment where Teya joined Brinley and Monty in napping

Dude that story was more funny now, than it would've been a week ago, after seeing how Teya is in the car, after seeing how Monty is in the car! Girl I know it!!! I could see it all in my head and I think I could hear voices at the same time. lol The binky thing had me rolling. That is freaking awesome that Teya was petting it and talking to it. I love it. Call me dude, and let me know how you're doing. I miss you guys already.

Wow Becca! What a ride!
Good thing for newborns who like to sleep a lot! And I would have caved on the binky too! Hope you get settled in quickly and love your new home!

The petting of the binky had me burst out laughing a couple of times. That's so funny. I dread car trips with the kids. I don't know what people did without dvd players. The sad thing is, Jarom is too young to pay attention to it and I'm like "dang it Jarom, just watch tv already!" haha

we just got back from a road trip too! so i could totally relate to everything you wrote about...you had me laughing over here. even though sarai is potty trained, we stuck her in a diaper and were like, "just go." lol. it was better than stopping every time she had to pee. and we changed diapers with the kids standing up. we're pros at that now. the dvd player totally saved us from major breakdowns and yep, beef jerkey, chips and energy drinks did the trick for us adults too. :) glad you guys made it to minneapolis safe! looking forward to more posts of your new life in your new place.

Wow - that is quite the achievement to survive such a road trip with a newborn, a 2-year old, and a dog! You're amazing.

I hope you get settled in and everything okay, and life can kind of get back to normal.

I miss you guys. Lets try to end up living in the same state again someday.
